High-latitude polar pattern of ionospheric electron density: Scaling features and IMF dependence

We investigated the average polar patterns of ionospheric electron density and corresponding scaling features as a function interplanetary magnetic field orientation. The focus is on Northern Hemisphere using data recorded on-board ESA Swarm A satellite. first- second-order exponents have been evaluated by means qth-order structure functions. used measurements over period 15 months from April 1, 2014 to June 30, 2015, which corresponds maximum solar cycle 24 characterized an value radio flux (F10.7) index equal (140±30) sfu. Electron density, mapped discussed for four main IMF orientations provided By Bz components under conditions high activity. Large spatial changes exponent pattern are observed with steepening associated spectral in correspondence nightside cap trailing edge. Intermittency, defined departure linearity dependence moment order q, also finding that it generally higher near equatorward boundary auroral oval than elsewhere. On whole, found suggest occurrence turbulence at latitudes.
